It certainly helps that this particular game was not based on some other franchise like a Marvel or Harry Potter movie. ![]() When Lego City Undercover first came out for the Wii U way back in 2013, some considered it to be arguably the best game in the Lego series thanks to its open-world sandbox mixed with procedural police hijinks. That includes adults like yours truly who not only remember playing with the interconnecting blocks but also experiencing some of the cultural references that its video game series likes to draw from. Kids are always a natural demographic for Lego but so are kids at heart. The fact that Lego City: Undercover makes me feel both youthful and like an old fart is a testament to its wide-ranging appeal. Then again, playing with Lego blocks always makes me feel like my younger self from the Breakfast Club-rebelling, Aquanet-spraying, Knight Rider-cruising period that is the 1980s. When you notice a “Starsky and Hutch” reference in one of the early sequences in the game - and I’m talking about the TV show from many, many decades ago - then your joints start to feel a bit creaky. ![]() Lego City: Undercover makes me feel young and old at the same time.
